My Dear People,

The reading of Exodus today points out the complaint that the people have toward God. This is due to their lack of faith. God alleviates their need even though they do not deserve it. At the same time, just as Moses and Aaron listened patiently to ... Read More »

17th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Posted by Christy .. on 9/19/18

My Dear People,

The next five weeks, we will read the six chapter of John which deal with the famous discourse of the bread of live. This is the chapter which clearly emphasize the importance of the Eucharist, and the doctrine of the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist.

Today we have the very memorable passage of John where Jesus fed the five thousand people from five barley loaves and two fish.  This miracle is the foreshadowing of the Eucharist. As Jesus said as the heavenly Father gave manna in the desert I will give you living bread. As Jesus took care of the physical need of the people in the desert how much more Jesus will take care of our spiritual needs. For this reason Jesus speaks about the living bread, which is found in the sixth chapter of the Gospel of John. There is the main teaching of Jesus in regard the Eucharist.  When Jesus took the barley loaves and the fish, gave thanks, and distributed them. The Eucharistic reference here is obvious. These are the same words which are used during the consecration. The one verb that here is not contained is broke it.  This happened at the last super to indicate that Jesus was going to be broken and sacrificed for us. Jesus took the loaves of ... Read More »

My Dear People,

In the Gospel today there are two stories, one story intertwined within another story. We wonder why Mark put it in the Gospel this way and not as a separate story.  Jesus is in a hurry to visit someone who is dying, and all of a ... Read More »

Nativity of St. John the Baptist

Posted by Christy .. on 7/10/18

My Dear People,

The birth of John the Baptist is one of the rare few feasts that celebrate the birth of an individual. Usually the feast day is celebrated at the day of death, (the day they entered Paradise). This is different. It was predicted by the prophets that a ... Read More »

My Dear People:

When we love someone, we are usually anxious to show our love in concrete and selfless acts.

In fact, the authenticity of our love is often measured by how much we are willing to turn away from ourselves and toward others in these acts ... Read More »
